E-Learning and Computational Linguistics

چکیده
0 Preface E-Learning is more and more becoming a commodity in all areas of education ranging from curricular learning at schools and universities via further education and learning on the job to social and game-based learning in spare time activities. At the same time, research on ELearning is scattered across different research disciplines, being often a matter of single initiatives and persons. In the light of this growing gap, the authors of this introduction want to showcase Computational Linguistics and Language Technology as possible key enabling technologies for current E-Learning.

From Text To Exhibitions: A New Approach For E-Learning On Language And Literature Based On Text Mining
Unlike many well established approaches for E-Learning on science fields, there isn’t a commonly accepted approach of E-Learning on humanities fields, especially language and literature. Because the knowledge on language and literature depends too much on texts, advanced text processing has become a bottleneck for E-Learning on these domains. In traditional learning frameworks learners would ea...
متن کاملCOLING - The 20th International Conference on Computational Linguistics Workshop eLearning for Computational Linguistics and Computational Linguistics for eLearning
The paper deals with the application of NLP technology in e-learning. We report our research on intelligent platforms for computermediated education. Some of the methods described in the paper have already taken part in the end-user applications that are in everyday use, others still wait for their implementation in the form of software products. The main message of the paper is that the langua...
متن کاملBoosting Applied to Tagging and PP Attachment
Boosting is a machine learning algorithm that is not well known in computational linguistics. We apply it to part-of-speech tagging and prepositional phrase attachment. Performance is very encouraging. We also show how to improve data quality by using boosting to identify annotation errors.
متن کاملThe Computational-Linguistic Approach to Forensic Authorship Attribution
This article examines the diversity of methods in authorship attribution through a lens which focuses attention on a single common element. The current state of authorship attribution study is spread throughout so many academic and non -academic disciplines that it is nigh impossible to describe all of the various assumptions about language and authorship. The disciplines involved in authorship...
متن کاملScaffolding Reflective Inquiry – Enabling Why-questioning While E-learning
This paper presents some theoretical and interdisciplinary perspectives that might inform the design and development of information and communications technology (ICT) tools to support reflective inquiry during e-learning. The role of why-questioning provides the focus of discussion and is guided by literature that spans critical thinking, inquiry-based and problem-based learning, storytelling,...
